KitchensAdvise collects personal information only when you voluntarily provide it or when it is automatically generated through your interaction with our website. We apply a minimum necessary principle — we collect only what is genuinely required to operate our service.

Information You Provide Directly

When you subscribe to our newsletter, submit a product review request, contact our editorial team, or apply for a position, you may provide us with your name, email address, and the content of your message. We do not require account creation to access any of our published content.

Newsletter subscription: first name and email address only
Contact forms: name, email, and message content
Career applications: contact details and uploaded CV
Correction submissions: email and correction detail

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our website, our hosting infrastructure and analytics tools automatically record certain technical data including your IP address (anonymised), browser type, device type, pages visited, time on page, and referring URL. This data is used in aggregate form only and is not linked to your identity.

We do not collect: payment information (no e-commerce on this site), government ID, sensitive personal categories, or any data from users we believe to be under 16 years of age.

We use the information we collect only for the purposes described below. We do not use your data for automated profiling, targeted advertising, or any purpose unrelated to operating KitchensAdvise as a kitchen information service.

Newsletter delivery: sending you the weekly content digest you signed up for, and occasional product safety alerts
Editorial response: responding to correction submissions, review requests, or contact messages you send us
Site improvement: using anonymised, aggregated analytics to understand which content is most useful to readers
Legal compliance: retaining data where required by applicable law, and responding to lawful requests from regulatory bodies
Fraud prevention: protecting against abuse of our newsletter service or contact channels

Legal Basis (GDPR — EU/UK Readers)

For readers in the European Union and United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing are: Consent (newsletter subscriptions), Legitimate Interests (site analytics, fraud prevention), and Legal Obligation (compliance records). We do not rely on contractual necessity as we provide free access to all content.

We never use your data to serve personalised advertising, sell targeted audience segments, or enrich third-party marketing databases. Our revenue comes from affiliate commissions and newsletter subscriptions, not advertising data.

We use a limited set of cookies and similar technologies. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking pixels, or social media tracking scripts. Our cookie use is the minimum required to operate a functional, analytics-informed website.

Essential Cookies (Always Active)

These cookies are strictly necessary for the website to function. They cannot be disabled. They include session state cookies, security tokens (CSRF protection), and your cookie consent preference record.

Analytics Cookies (Consent Required)

We use Plausible Analytics — a privacy-first, cookieless analytics tool — as our primary measurement tool. Plausible does not use cookies or collect personal data, and all data is aggregated and anonymised. For users who consent, we may supplement this with session replay tools that record anonymous interaction patterns (no personally identifiable information recorded).

Affiliate Tracking Cookies

When you click a product link on our site, our affiliate partners (Amazon, etc.) may set cookies to track whether a purchase results from your click. These cookies are set by the retailer, not by us. You can disable them via our cookie consent manager or your browser settings. See our Affiliate Disclosure for full details.

We do not use Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, or any advertising network tracking on our site. We will never add these without updating this policy and seeking fresh consent.

Managing Cookies

You can manage your cookie preferences at any time via the cookie settings link in our site footer, or by adjusting your browser settings. Disabling non-essential cookies will not affect your ability to access any of our content.

We share personal data with a small number of third-party service providers who help us operate the website. These providers are bound by strict data processing agreements and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

Service Providers We Use

Email platform (ConvertKit / Mailchimp): to deliver our newsletter. Your email address is shared with this provider solely for this purpose.
Web hosting (Cloudflare): to serve the website. Cloudflare processes connection-level data as part of CDN and DDoS protection services.
Analytics (Plausible): privacy-preserving site analytics. No personal data is shared — Plausible uses no cookies and no cross-site tracking.
Affiliate retailers (Amazon, etc.): when you click an outbound product link, the retailer may receive referral data. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.

What We Never Do

We never sell, rent, or license your personal data to third parties. We do not share data with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics aggregators. We do not provide email lists to commercial partners. We have never done any of these things and will not.

Legal Disclosures

We may disclose personal data where required by law, in response to a valid court order, or where necessary to protect the rights and safety of our users or the public. We will notify affected users whenever legally permissible before making such disclosures.

All data held by KitchensAdvise is stored in encrypted form on servers located in the United States. We apply industry-standard security practices to protect data from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Security Measures

All data in transit encrypted via TLS 1.3 (HTTPS enforced site-wide)
Data at rest encrypted using AES-256
Access to personal data restricted to staff with legitimate operational need
Two-factor authentication required for all staff with data access
Annual third-party security audit of all data systems
Incident response plan with 72-hour notification commitment

Data Retention

Newsletter subscriber data is retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days. Contact form submissions are retained for 12 months, then deleted. Site analytics data (anonymised) is retained for 24 months. In all cases, you may request deletion at any time.

Depending on your location, you have significant rights over your personal data. We honour all applicable data rights requests within 30 calendar days. There is no charge for exercising these rights.

Right of Access: request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
Right to Rectification: correct inaccurate personal data we hold
Right to Erasure ("Right to Be Forgotten"): request deletion of your personal data
Right to Restriction: limit how we process your data in certain circumstances
Right to Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
Right to Object: object to processing based on legitimate interests

Right to Delete: request deletion of personal information we have collected
Right to Opt-Out of Sale: we do not sell personal information, so this right is automatically satisfied

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] with your request. We will verify your identity before processing. Response within 30 days guaranteed.

KitchensAdvise is not directed at children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. Our content — kitchen product reviews, appliance guides, and culinary information — is intended for adults and mature teenagers under parental guidance.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at [email protected] and we will delete that information promptly.

We do not use any data collection practices that specifically target minors, and our newsletter subscription process includes an age confirmation step.

When you subscribe to our newsletter, you provide your first name and email address. We use this to send you our weekly kitchen intelligence digest, product safety alerts, and occasional research reports. We do not send promotional emails on behalf of third parties.

Unsubscribing

Every email we send contains a one-click unsubscribe link. Clicking it removes you from all future mailings immediately, with no login required. You can also email [email protected] to request removal. All unsubscribe requests are processed within 24 hours.

Email Marketing Consent

We use double opt-in for newsletter subscriptions — you will receive a confirmation email before your subscription is activated. This protects against unauthorised subscriptions and gives us a clear consent record. We retain your consent record for the duration of your subscription.

We never add you to our newsletter without your explicit opt-in. Contact forms and review requests do not result in newsletter subscriptions unless you specifically tick an opt-in box.

KitchensAdvise is based in the United States. If you are located in the European Union, United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with data transfer restrictions, your personal data will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

We ensure that all international transfers comply with applicable data protection law. For EU/UK transfers, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and, where available, adequacy decisions. All third-party service providers that receive EU/UK personal data are bound by appropriate safeguards.

For questions about international data transfers, contact our privacy team at [email protected].

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements, or services. When we make material changes, we will:

Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
Post a clear notice on our homepage for at least 30 days
Notify newsletter subscribers via email for significant changes
Maintain an archive of previous policy versions (available on request)

Your continued use of KitchensAdvise after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. If you disagree with any changes, you may unsubscribe from our newsletter and discontinue use of our site at any time.

For all privacy-related inquiries — data access requests, deletion requests, consent withdrawal, or questions about this policy — contact our Privacy team directly. We are committed to responding within 30 calendar days.
