Affiliate Disclosure

How We Earn.
Fully Transparent.

KitchensAdvise uses affiliate links to help fund our independent research. Here is everything you need to know — exactly how it works, what it means for our editorial content, and how it definitely does not affect our scores.

FTC Required Disclosure

KitchensAdvise.com participates in affiliate marketing programmes. This means we may earn a commission when you click a link on our site and make a purchase — at no additional cost to you. This is required to be disclosed by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and equivalent regulators worldwide.

Amazon Associates Programme
Our primary affiliate partnership
Member of Amazon Associates Programme (US, UK, CA, DE, IN & others)
Commission earned only when you make a qualifying purchase after clicking our link
Typical commission rates: 1–10% depending on product category
You pay exactly the same price — our commission is paid by Amazon, not added to your price
Amazon affiliate links are identified by our link disclosure text near every product
Affiliate income never influences our product scores or editorial recommendations

KitchensAdvise LLC is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com and its affiliated international sites.

What Is an Affiliate Link?
The Basics

An affiliate link is a specially coded URL that tracks whether a website visitor came from a referring site (in this case, KitchensAdvise) before making a purchase at a retailer. When you click an affiliate link on our site and buy a product, the retailer's system records that the sale originated from our referral and pays us a small commission.

This is a standard and legal way for content publishers to generate revenue without charging readers for access to their content. Affiliate marketing is explicitly recognised and regulated by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the UK's ASA, and equivalent bodies worldwide, all of which require publishers to clearly disclose affiliate relationships — which we do on this page and on every article that contains affiliate links.

The key principle: You pay exactly the same price whether you use our affiliate link or go directly to the retailer. The commission we receive is paid by the retailer from their margin — it is never added to your price.

Why We Use Affiliate Links

KitchensAdvise provides completely free access to all our content — over 1,240 product reviews, hundreds of buying guides, and thousands of how-to articles. The cost of operating our ISO-accredited lab facility, purchasing products at retail for testing, and paying our 22-person team of food scientists, chefs, and engineers is substantial. Affiliate commissions, alongside our premium newsletter subscription, are how we sustain this operation without charging readers or accepting advertising.

Amazon Associates Programme
Primary Programme

KitchensAdvise LLC is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program — the world's largest and most established affiliate programme. This programme is designed to provide a means for website operators to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon and its family of websites.

Which Amazon Stores We Link To

We participate in Amazon Associates programmes in multiple territories to ensure readers worldwide can find products at their local Amazon store:

Amazon.com (United States) — our primary Amazon affiliate store
Amazon.co.uk (United Kingdom)
Amazon.ca (Canada)
Amazon.de (Germany / German-speaking Europe)
Amazon.com.au (Australia)
Amazon.in (India)

Amazon Commission Rates

Amazon's commission structure varies by product category. Kitchen-related categories typically earn between 1% and 8% depending on the specific category. For reference, kitchen appliances typically earn 3–4.5%, cookware earns 4–6%, and accessories earn 4–8%. These rates are set entirely by Amazon and can change at any time — we have no control over them.

Amazon disclaimer text (required): "As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc., or its affiliates."

How Amazon Affiliate Tracking Works

When you click an Amazon affiliate link on our site, Amazon sets a tracking cookie (valid for 24 hours) that attributes any qualifying purchase you make during that session to our account. If you already have an item in your cart when you click our link, the commission window extends to 90 days for that specific item. Purchases made after the cookie expires are not attributed to us.

Other Affiliate Programmes
Additional Partners

In addition to Amazon Associates, we maintain affiliate relationships with a small number of other retailers and programmes. All are disclosed here and marked on-page wherever they appear.

Williams-Sonoma
Premium kitchen retail affiliate partner
Target
General kitchen goods affiliate
Walmart
Budget kitchen category affiliate
Bed Bath & Beyond
Cookware and home goods affiliate
Crate & Barrel
Premium cookware affiliate
Whole Foods
Food & ingredient affiliate only

We add or remove affiliate partnerships periodically. This page is updated whenever our affiliate relationships change. The absence of a retailer from this list means we have no affiliate relationship with them, and any links to their site are purely editorial.

We choose affiliate partners based on their ability to provide the best price and availability for our readers — not based on commission rates. Our highest-commission partner will still be listed second (or not at all) if another retailer offers a better deal for the reader.

How It Works — Step by Step
Clear Process

Here is exactly what happens from the moment you read a review on our site to the moment a potential commission is recorded:

Step 1 — You read our review. Our score is determined entirely by lab testing data. The presence or absence of an affiliate link has no influence on the score.
Step 2 — You click a product link. If the link is an affiliate link, it contains a tracking code (e.g. "?tag=kitadvise-20" for Amazon.com). This is how the retailer's system knows you came from our site.
Step 3 — You are taken to the retailer. You see the exact same price as any other visitor. The retailer sets the price; we have no influence over it.
Step 4 — You decide whether to buy. That decision is entirely yours. We've given you our test data; you make the call. Many readers don't buy the product, or buy it elsewhere — that's fine.
Step 5 — If you buy (within the cookie window). The retailer records the sale, attributes it to our account, and pays us a commission from their margin. You receive the product. You pay nothing extra.
Step 6 — Commission reaches us. Retailer commissions are paid 30–90 days after the sale, after the return window has closed. We aggregate this revenue and use it to fund product purchases, lab operations, and editorial staff.
Editorial Independence Guarantee
Our Commitment

This is the most important section of this disclosure. We want to be absolutely unambiguous about the relationship between our affiliate revenue and our editorial content.

Our scores are determined by testing data. Period. No affiliate relationship has ever influenced a KitchensAdvise product score, ranking, or recommendation. Our commercial team and editorial team operate with a documented firewall between them.

What Our Editorial Firewall Means in Practice

A product with no affiliate relationship will be ranked first if its test score warrants it
A product from our highest-commission affiliate partner will receive a low score if its test data warrants it — and we have done this repeatedly
Our commercial team has no ability to request, delay, or alter editorial content
We have published negative reviews of products from retailers with whom we have active affiliate relationships — and kept those reviews live under commercial pressure
If a top-ranked product is unavailable on an affiliate retailer, we link to a non-affiliate source rather than recommend an inferior product for commission reasons
All affiliate relationships are disclosed on this page, in our footer, and near every affiliate link on-page

Verification

Our editorial processes are subject to annual external audit. The audit specifically reviews whether commercial relationships have influenced editorial content. Results are published in our annual transparency report. If you believe we have recommended a product for affiliate reasons rather than test data, contact [email protected] with your concern — we will investigate and respond publicly.

How Links Are Identified on Page
On-Page Labelling

We label affiliate links clearly throughout our site. You will never have to guess whether a link earns us a commission. Our on-page labelling conventions are:

Article header disclosure: every article containing affiliate links displays a disclosure statement near the top of the page, before any product links appear
Inline link labels: affiliate links are accompanied by a small "(affiliate link)" notation or a retailer label button that identifies the destination and its affiliate status
Product comparison tables: all "Buy at [Retailer]" buttons in our comparison tables that lead to affiliate links are clearly identified with our standard disclosure text
Footer disclosure: a persistent disclosure notice appears in our site footer on every page that contains affiliate links
This page: this Affiliate Disclosure is linked from our site footer, every article containing affiliate links, and our Terms & Conditions

If you ever find an affiliate link on our site that is not clearly labelled, please report it to [email protected]. We take unlabelled affiliate links seriously and will correct them immediately.

No Cost to You
Reader Assurance

Using our affiliate links costs you absolutely nothing extra. The price you see on Amazon or any other retailer is identical whether you arrived via our link or directly. The commission we receive is paid by the retailer, funded from their margin on the sale — not from any surcharge applied to your purchase.

In fact, using our links can sometimes benefit you: we occasionally have access to exclusive coupon codes or promotional partnerships that we share with our readers, which may provide discounts above the standard retail price. These promotional arrangements are always clearly disclosed.

We never inflate our product recommendations to drive more affiliate sales. We test and score honestly — because in the long run, reader trust drives far more sustainable revenue than short-term commission manipulation. Our business is built on accuracy, not affiliate volume.

Your Choices & Opting Out
Your Control

Using affiliate links is entirely optional. Every product we recommend can be found directly at the retailer's website by searching for the product name. You are never required to use our affiliate link to access the information in our reviews.

How to Avoid Affiliate Tracking

Go direct: simply search for the product name on Amazon or the relevant retailer directly, without clicking our link
Block tracking cookies: use a browser extension like uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, or enable enhanced tracking protection in Firefox/Safari to block affiliate tracking cookies
Use private browsing: browsing in incognito/private mode prevents cookies from persisting after you close the window, limiting tracking
Cookie manager: use our cookie consent manager (in the site footer) to disable non-essential cookies, including affiliate tracking

If you choose not to use our affiliate links, we still want you to read our content and benefit from our testing. Our revenue model does not depend on any individual reader clicking affiliate links — it depends on the aggregate trust and usefulness of our platform.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick Answers
Does the commission you earn change what you recommend?
No. Our recommendations are determined by lab test scores only. We have recommended non-affiliate products, lowly-commissioned products, and products from retailers with whom we have no relationship. Commission rates play zero role in editorial decisions. This is enforced by our editorial charter and verified by annual external audit.
Do I pay more when I buy through your links?
Never. The price you see is the same price every shopper sees. Our commission is paid by Amazon or the relevant retailer from their own margin — it is not a surcharge on your purchase.
What happens if I return a product I bought via your link?
If you return a product and receive a refund, the commission associated with that sale is reversed and we receive nothing. This is standard practice across all affiliate programmes.
Are all your product links affiliate links?
No. Where we cannot link to a product via an affiliate programme (e.g. the product is only available from a retailer with whom we have no relationship), we link directly without any commission. We never refuse to recommend a great product because it cannot be monetised.
Do you get paid to feature specific products?
Absolutely not. We do not accept payment, products, services, or any consideration from brands to feature, review, or rank their products. Our review queue is determined by reader requests and editorial assessment — never by brand payment.
I clicked your Amazon link but bought something else. Do you still earn a commission?
Yes — when you click an Amazon affiliate link and then make any qualifying purchase on Amazon within the 24-hour cookie window, we may earn a commission on that purchase too, even if it is not the product we linked to. This is how Amazon's programme works and is disclosed in Amazon's own terms. The commission rate for unrelated purchases is the same as for the linked product's category.
FTC Compliance Statement
Regulatory

KitchensAdvise is fully compliant with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's Guidelines Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255) and the FTC's updated guidance on endorsements and testimonials (effective 2023).

FTC Requirements We Meet

Clear and conspicuous disclosure: our affiliate relationship with Amazon and other retailers is disclosed clearly on this page, in our footer, and within or near every piece of content containing affiliate links
Proximity to link: disclosures appear near the affiliate links they describe, not buried in footers alone
No misleading claims: we do not claim products are "best" or "recommended" for affiliate reasons — all such claims are backed by test data
Honest reviews: our reviews reflect our genuine assessment of products based on scientific testing. We are not required by Amazon or any affiliate partner to provide positive reviews

International Compliance

We also comply with equivalent requirements in other jurisdictions where our readers are located, including the UK ASA/CAP rules on affiliate marketing, the EU's Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, and the ACCC guidelines in Australia. If you believe our disclosures are non-compliant in your jurisdiction, please contact [email protected].

Note for brand / agency readers: Contacting us with requests to remove or soften negative reviews of affiliate products, or to add affiliate links to inflate commission revenue, constitutes an attempt to influence editorial content and will be declined, logged, and may be publicly reported. Our editorial independence is non-negotiable.

Our Affiliate Independence Pledge

Our Unbreakable Commitments to You

These are not aspiration statements — they are documented, auditable, and externally verified commitments that define how affiliate income relates to our editorial content. We have honoured every one of these since our founding in 2013.

Scores are never influenced by commission rates
No affiliate partner has ever affected a product score. Every score is a direct output of our 47-point lab testing framework.
We link to the best deal, not the best commission
If a non-affiliate retailer offers a better price, returns policy, or availability, we link there — even though we earn nothing.
Negative reviews are never suppressed or softened
We have published and maintained negative reviews of products from our affiliate partners under commercial pressure. These reviews remain live.
All affiliate relationships are disclosed on every page
Every page with an affiliate link carries a disclosure. We never use affiliate links without disclosing them. Non-compliance is treated as a serious editorial failure.
Editorial and commercial teams are firewalled
Our commercial team has no access to editorial content before publication and no ability to request changes to scores, rankings, or copy.
Annual independent audit of affiliate practices
Our affiliate disclosure compliance and editorial independence is reviewed by an external auditor annually. Published results available on request.
